It does say this- "The storage device preparation utilities are MS-DOS utilities. Eventually, these will be Windows CE or Windows XP utilities." This leads me to believe that BIOS Boot Loader doesn't support exFAT yet. Am I looking at the right boot loader? Ops - very sorry. I was looking at the wrong source tree.

Even in my target device after I take the card out and put it back in the card appears empty. First I thought it was because of exfat which I enabled on the MSFlash device. I changed the registry to disable exfat for PCMCIA but it does not help. I need to be able to format CF with a simple FAT16/FAT32 partition.

In Windows CE there is a new system called EXFAT which is the next generation of FAT32+TFAT with many improvements on both. It is my understanding there will be FS driver support for EXFAT on Vista and XP. Not sure what the status of that is at this point it is also possible I misunderstood what I read on that.

TFAT / exFAT
Note that CE 6.0 comes with exfat, and I believe Vista supports exfat now (maybe even XP with an update, can't remember exactly). The very fact that exfat exists tells me that MS recognized the gap of needed functionality. Good for them. ----------------------------------- Let me get back to the question I

exFat is a new file system designed for portable and mobile devices that will allow much larger files than 4GB but exFat is not final yet. Unfortunately exFat will not be backwards compatible with the present devices. "Wandering" <amore....@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:%23wYi40XSIHA.4584@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl.
